Mr. Donald J. Klinger , 82, of 109 Carter St., Union, S.C., formerly of South Bend, husband of Mrs. Winifred (Rogers) Klinger , died at 6 a.m. Sunday in Mary Black Hospital, Union, after a brief illness.

Mr. Klinger was born in Wabash, Ind., on April 1, 1914, a son of the late Harley J. and Marie Porter Klinger . He was of the Methodist faith, a member of Union Elk's Lodge and the American Red Cross and was presented the Order of the Palmetto by former Gov. Dick Riley. Mr. Klinger was a retired plant superintendent at Torrington Company, and was later employed by Community Development for the city of Union, S.C.

Surviving in addition to his wife, are a daughter, Carolee K. Holderbaum of North Liberty; three sons, Terry Lee Klinger of Fort Wayne; Ronald J. Klinger of Mishawaka and Dr. Brent J. Klinger of Orangeburg, S.C.; and 13 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel, Union, S.C., by the Rev. Jerry Lawson. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and on Thursday from 1 to 3 p.m. The family is at the home, 109 Carter St., Union. Memorials may be made to the Union County Council on Aging, 237 N. Gadberry St., Union, S.C. 29379. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
