John A. Mourer

SOUTH BEND — John A. Mourer, 83, of North Manchester Drive, South Bend, Ind., died fol-lowing an illness at 11:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 27, in St. Joseph's Medical Center. Mr. Mourer retired from the Bendix Corporation as a tool designer in 1970 after 19 years service. He had also been employed at Real Estate Scene and Holbert Engineering in South Bend.
He was born on Dec. 23, 1914, in Logansport, Ind., to Albert A. and Irene C. (Schaffer) Mourer, and lived in the South Bend area most of his life.
On May 13, 1938, in Scottsburg, Ind., he married Lois F. Frain, who survives. He is also survived by two daughters, Diane (Thomas) Watson of Mishawaka, Ind., and Debbie (Donald) Wisowaty of Itasca, Ill.; four grandchildren, Tom and Tim Watson and Suzanne and Stacy Wojciechowski; and by three sisters, Charlotte Struthers of LaVeme, Calif., Bernice Hahn of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Lucille "Squee" Routt of Leesburg, Fla.
Mr. Mourer graduated from Riley High School where he played football. He was a member of Elks Lodge #235, and the First United Methodist Church where he served as an usher.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today in the Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William Street, with Dr. Ellwood K. Smith of First United Methodist officiating. Entombment will follow at Riverview Cemetery. Friends called from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Music Department of the First United Methodist Church, 333 N. Main Street, South Bend, IN 46601.
