Cecelia A. "Tede" (Swanson) Allmon

April 20, 1915 - June 11, 2011
SOUTH BEND - Cecelia (Tede) Adrienne Swanson Allmon went to be with the Lord on June 11, 2011, at Hospice House of South Bend. She was born the youngest of five children to Anton and Florence Swanson, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by four siblings, Ray (Lucy) Swanson, Robert (Rosemary) Swanson, Myrtle (Bob) Burns, and Florence (Edwin) St. Clair Gantz.

On June 10, 1936, she married the love of her life, Francis Elwood (Ellie) Allmon. They were married for 55 years before he preceded her in death in November of 1990.

Mrs. Allmon was born in South Bend and graduated from Riley High School at the age of sixteen. She went on to attain two college degrees and taught school in a one-room schoolhouse. She also worked in the offices at Studebaker.

After her marriage in 1936, she became a devoted homemaker and community volunteer. She was a member of Merytimers Dinner and Dance Club, Kiwanis Auxiliary, President of Hearing and Speech Auxiliary, and Ladies of the Elks. She was a past President of the Memorial Hospital Women's Auxiliary. Her greatest accomplishments include being Chairperson of the South Bend Bi-Centennial Committee; and being a 60 year member of the Schuyler-Colfax Chapter of DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) and twice elected Regent of the Chapter.

Tede was known for her passionate patriotism and known for her dedication to volunteerism and commitment to community service.

Surviving Cecelia are one daughter, Diane (Reed) Covert, of IL; one son, Robert (Pam) Allmon, of Mishawaka, with whom Tede lived for 10 years; Grandchildren Charles Reed, Darcy (Nick) Renna, Robin (Don) Young and Wendy Centers, her devoted caregiver for the last four years of her life and with whom she shared a home. Great-grandchildren include Nicole (Kenneth) Thelen, her namesake Adrienne Allmon, Logan Reed, Madeline and Trevor Young, and Austin Centers. She had one Great-great granddaughter, Addison Thelen. Step-grandchildren include Kevin (Jessie) Eller, Bill Eller, Greg Eller, and Cari Jo (Brian) Tanner. Step-great-grandchildren include Jeremy Eller Lyman, Anthony Eller Ferguson, Jaden Eller, and Cassidy Eller.

A Memorial Service will be held for Mrs. Allmon on Tuesday, July 19, at 11 am, at The First Presbyterian Church of South Bend located on Colfax. To celebrate her life, the family requests that anyone able to attend the service honor Mrs. Allmon by wearing red, white, and blue.
