Harold Nietch - Class Of 1935 VIEW PROFILE

Harold F. Nietch

April 13, 1917 — Feb. 13, 2007

NILES — Harold F. Nietch, 89, passed away at Silverbrook Manor nursing home on Feb. 13. Harold was one of five children born to George and Clara Nietch in Logansport, IN. The family later moved to South Bend, IN, and Harold continued to live there until he married Marie Leonard and moved to Niles, MI in 1939.

In Niles, he was employed as a salesman for Beland's Automotive Supply Company, and eventually, became self-employed at Harold's Service Station on the corner of Sycamore and Fifth Street. Harold served In the United States Navy in World War II as an electrician on the U.S.S. Thorn Destroyer. He was a member of the American Legion Post #26 in Niles, and a life member of B.RO. of the Niles Elks Lodge #1322. He was an avid bowler and golfer, and was an Elks' league participant for many years.

His first marriage ended in divorce and he married Irene McIntyre on March 3, 1962. Harold and Irene moved to Crescent City, FL, in 1978. The sunshine and warm weather created an ideal retirement for them, Irene died in 1992. July 19, 1992, Harold married Minnie Lanfair of Eastman, GA. Harold and Minne made their home in Eastman.

Harold particularly liked having lunch every day at the Dodge County Hospital cafeteria with a group of special friends. He enjoyed sitting on the front porch and talking with his neighbors. Minnie died June 16, 2006 and Harold returned to Niles to recuperate from an illness.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents; his wives, Irene and Minnie; a son, Robert W. Nietch; and three brothers, Howard Nietch, Charles Nietch and Edward Nietch.

He is survived by his sister, Dorothy (George) Nanos of Goshen, IN; son, L. Thomas (Sue) Nietch of Niles; stepson, Johnny (Linda) Lanfair of Powder Springs, GA; grandson, Dr. Christopher I. (Kim) Nietch of Cincinnati, Ohio; and two step-granddaughters, Angela Williamson and Kristin Lanfair of Powder Springs; and several nieces and nephews.

There will be no visitation. Cremation and private burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Niles. The Halbritter Funeral Home, Niles is handling arrangements. Contributions in memory of Harold F. Nietch may be made to the donor's choice.
