Victor Blong

SOUTH BEND - Victor Blong, 92, of South Bend, passed away on December 19, 2011, at his residence. Victor was born on March 2, 1919, in South Bend, Indiana.
He graduated from Riley High School, Class of 1937. He earned a BSEE degree from Notre Dame in 1956 and a MSEE degree in 1957. He worked in Studebaker Engine Research and the Jet Engine plant through WW II. After 1957, he worked in Conn Organ engineering in Elkhart, and in Conn Keyboards in Carol Stream, IL, as the UL and CSA approval contact. He became active in St. Joe County C.E., starting 1938 and later becoming V.P. and President, and then to St. Joe County YFC as Sound Man and Secretary. At Harris Prairie Church of Christ, he was a teacher, Bible School Superintendant, Deacon, Board Secretary, and in the Missions Group. He was immersed by his request at Broadway Christian Church in 1957, while still a Presbyterian.
In Christian Endeavor trips with River Park Church people, he met Jocelyn Beeman, and grew to love her. He joined River Park Church, where he and Jocelyn were married on October 19, 1957, and later in the Harris Prairie Church of Christ. Jocelyn preceded him in death on June 21, 2009. .
Victor is survived by a brother-in-law, Duane Beeman of South Bend, along with many nieces and nephews, Donald Herrschop of Granger, Dennis (Connie) Herrschop of Osceola, Deborah (Kenneth) Odynski of South Bend, Diane (David) Retek of Granger, Sue Jacob of Griffin, Georgia, Jean (Steve) Glowacki of Loveland, Colorado, Sandy (Tom) Barron of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Judy (Lester) Janes of Palatine, Illinois, and Tim (Katrina) Beeman of Berrien Springs, Michigan. Victor is also survived by longtime friends, Lenna Vee Oyler of Plymouth, Indiana, and Marilyn Keating of South Bend.
Friends may visit with the family today, December 21, 2011, in the Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 N. Main St., Mishawaka, from 4 until 7 pm, and one hour prior to the service on Thursday. A service celebrating Victor's life will be held at 11 am Thursday in the funeral chapel. Burial is to follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Osceola. The family requests in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made in Victor's name to the Harris Prairie Church of Christ.
