SOUTH BEND - Dawn Marie Brooks, 29, formerly of Benton Township, died in a house fire on Tuesday, April 21, 2009, in South Bend, IN. Dawn was born to Maria (Rogers) and Irey L. Brooks on April 19, 1980, in Benton Harbor, MI.

She attended Lake Michigan Catholic Elementary School in Benton Harbor. Her family moved to South Bend in 1992, and she attended Jackson Middle School and Riley High School.

Dawn was employed at a local hotel in South Bend. She enjoyed backyard cookouts with her family and friends, swimming, horseback riding, and snowmobiling. She also loved to play video games and to go to garage sales with her nephew, Austin. A special note to his Aunt Dawn, "I love you and will miss you very much." Dawn gave the gift of life to her two beautiful sons whom she loved very much. She particularly loved going to the park and playing games with her youngest son, Matthew.

Dawn is survived by her mother, Maria Humphries; step-father, Raymond Humphries, both of Plymouth; brother, Richard L. Brooks, of Mishawaka; two sisters, Nicole L. Brooks of Stevensville, MI and Bethany Farmer of South Bend; and by her stepbrother, Timothy Humphries also of South Bend.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated today, April 25, 2009, at St. John's Catholic Church, 600 Columbus Ave., in Benton Harbor, MI, with Father Bill Jacobs officiating. Burial will be private. Visitation was held Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., at the Fairplain Chapel of Florin Funeral Services, 1053 E. Napier, in Benton Harbor. The Rosary was at 7:00 P.M. Memorials donations may be directed to any 1st Source Bank in the name of the Dawn M. Brooks' Memorial Fund for her funeral expenses.
