MISHAWAKA - Deborah Miller Cooke, 51, died Tuesday morning in her home in Remington Court Apartments, Mishawaka. Deborah was a case manager for Madison Center from 1997 to 2006, where she worked with at risk youth. Much of the balance of her career was dedicated to secondary education in the Milwaukee area and locally. She also taught special-needs children.

Deborah graduated from Riley High School in 1976, and went on to earn a BA degree in English from Indiana University at Bloomington in 1982. Deborah acquired certification in Secondary English Education three years later.

Deborah was born February 14, 1958 in Richmond, Virginia, to Jim and Betsy Cooke who survive along with her daughter, Jaime Grainger. Deborah has two surviving sisters, Allison Beckwith Cooke (Robert Girsh) of Milwaukee and Cynthia Ann Cooke of Wilmington, NC.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, in Evangel Heights United Methodist Church, 114 N. Ironwood with Deborah's cousin, the Rev. Dr. William Senn of Tri City Baptist Church, Denver, CO, officiating. There will be a reception following the service in the Fellowship Hall. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today in the HICKEY Funeral Home, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend. Deborah will always be remembered as a fun loving spirit with a unique humor and style. The family requests that memorials be made to: Christ Child Society, P.O. Box 1286, 308 S. Scott Street, South Bend, IN 46624.
