Doris L. (Bowman) Daniel

SOUTH BEND - Doris L. Daniel, 89, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 5:30 a.m. Friday, May 22, 2009, in the Sanctuary of Holy Cross, South Bend. She was born on August 10, 1919, in Mishawaka, IN, to the late Herbert J. and Edna Mae (Shively) Bowman, and remained a lifelong resident of this community. Her father, H. J. Bowman, owned Martin Machine Tool & Die Company where she worked as secretary/bookkeeper.
On April 15, 1944, in South Bend, IN, as Doris Bowman, she married Leslie J. Daniel, who preceded her in death on February 24, 1999.
Mrs. Daniel is survived by her two daughters, J. Darlene Daniel of Redondo Beach, CA, and Sharon L. Greanias of South Bend; three grandchildren, Kimberly A. (Michael) Harding of Cassopolis, MI, Amy L. (Steven) Langner of Mishawaka and Ryan J.D. Titsch of Portland, OR; three great-grandsons, Cory M., Colin S. and Christopher T. Harding; and one sister, Verna Lott of South Bend. Her daughter, Nancy L. Kovatch, her son, Dennis S. Daniel, two sisters, Jeanette Moulton and Catherine Sturm, and her brother, Herbert F. Bowman, all preceded her in death. Mrs. Daniel enjoyed cooking, planting flowers, the lake, pontoon rides, and the beach at Diamond Lake, but especially loved her family.
She graduated from Riley High School, Class of 1937, and earned her bachelor's degree at Indiana University, Bloomington. Mrs. Daniel was an early member of the Service Guild. She was an avid Notre Dame sports fan.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, May 28, in the Palmer Funeral Home - River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend. Rev. Ed Erskin will officiate. Entombment will follow at Highland Cemetery, South Bend. Friends may visit with the family from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Contributions in memory of Doris L.
