SOUTH BEND - Deatra left our world to be with God and rejoin her father, Joseph; sister, Yvonne; and nephew, Baby Joey. Deatra was a loving mother, daughter, wife, sister and friend to all who knew her. Deatra passed away at Our Lady of Peace Hospital in Mishawaka after a long illness on May 2, 2011.

Deatra is survived by her mother, Jean Freeman; husband James; daughter, Karen; son, Michael; stepdaughters, Libby and April; stepsons, Phillip, Patrick; sisters, Kandie, Pamela, and Sabrina (Rory); and grandchildren, Lindsey, Zak, and Amaya; extended grandchildren, Jade, Jimi, Nikkia, and Natalia; nieces, Lyndee, Heather, Lavonne, Michele and Carmen; nephews Joshua and Benjamin; and several great-nieces and nephews.

Deatra went to Riley High school, became a Dental Tech for several different dental labs.

She also worked in the Taxicab field as a driver and dispatcher. Deatra loved bowling, meeting friends on the computer, helping people in need, and especially her family trip to Hawaii.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to Memorial Services at 3:00 p.m., Friday, May 6, 2011 in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home 521 N. William St. Following services there will be a polish style meal served at the American Legion Post 357 at 5414 W. Sample St. Memorial contributions on Deatra's behalf can be made to: Foundation of Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, 837 E. Cedar St., South Bend, IN, 46615. Contributed funds will allow St. Joseph Regional Center to assist individuals without insurance to receive needed medical treatment. E-Mail condolences may be made at www.welsheimer.com.
