Mary J. "Gina" (Heiden) Macri

SOUTH BEND - Mary Jean E. "Gina" Macri, 91, passed away Sunday, June 21, 2009, in Tulsa, OK. She was born March 8, 1918, in South Bend, IN, to William Carl and Mary Magdalena (Arndt) Heiden.

She graduated from James Whitcomb Riley High School in South Bend in 1935.

In 1940 she married Joseph "Giuseppe," the love of her life. She was a homemaker and retired from the Montgomery Ward Co. They moved to Tulsa in 1982 to be near their daughter, Jacquelyn. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She served as Star Recorder for the Moose Lodge and was an active member for over 50 years. Mary Jean loved cooking, country music, sewing, fishing, Notre Dame football, playing card games and, most of all, her family. Having taught her daughters to prepare traditional family Italian meals, "Gina" was the inspiration for "Gina & Giuseppe's Italian Ristorante" in Tulsa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; infant sons, David Anthony and Michael Joseph; grandson, Jaime Redden; and by a great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Mills.

She is survived by her husband, Joseph "Giuseppe" Macri; daughters, Joann and Bill Fowler of AL, Karen and Bob Campbell of IL, Cynthia and Blake MacPherson of FL, and Jacquelyn Spraker of OK; eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; and by a brother, William C. Heiden of South Bend. She was loved by many nieces and nephews.

She will be laid to rest at St. Joseph Memorial Park in Granger. Services will begin at 2:30 P.M. in the Cemetery Chapel, with a graveside service immediately following.
