Herbert K. "Throw Down"  Martin

Herbert K. Martin June 4, 1961 - March 10, 2014 NILES - Herbert K. Martin, affectionately known as "Throw Down," age 52, of North Brookfield St., went home to be with the Lord on Monday, March 10, 2014. He was born June 4, 1961, in Oxford, MS., to the union of Alfreeman and Mary (Davis) Martin, Sr. He accepted Jesus Christ at an early age as his Lord and Saviour.

Herbert leaves to cherish his loving memory, his mother, Mary Martin, fa-ther, Alfreeman (Joyce) Martin, Sr., both of South Bend, IN., his lifetime companion, Annette Robinson of Niles, MI., four sisters, Latonya (Steven) Gaines and Tamara Martin both of South Bend, Faye Adams of Oxford, MS., and Clarissa Martin of Milwaukee, WI., five brothers, Harvey (Patricia) Martin of Lebanon, IN., Alfreeman (Janet) Martin, Jr., Michael (Aisha) Martin, Sr., and Michael Bowen all of South Bend, Perry (Darnette) Summerville of North Caroline, four special daughters, Shonita Robinson and Sharon (Eric) Berry both of Indianapolis, IN., Salana and Shawnette Robinson both of Niles, MI., one grandson, Shervary'us Wallace-Martin of South Bend, 14 grandchildren and two great grandchildren that Annette graciously shared with him; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and special longtime family friends, Victor (Elaine) Seward, Michael White and Robert Reed all of South Bend, IN.

Herbert was preceded in death by a loving son, James E. Wallace-Martin, brother, Curtis Gatson, Jr., grandmothers, Theressia Harris and Sue Wadie Mae Howard, grandfathers, Herbert L. Davis and Kay Martin, one aunt, Charlene Green.

Herbert moved to South Bend in 1968 and attended Riley High School after which he joined the United States Army being honorably discharged in 1982 with several commendations.

Herb was employed with Bernell for 15 years. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and his family even during his illness he made it all family functions and enjoyed them without missing a beat. He will be surely missed by family and friends. The Martin family wishes to thank the Robinson family and Hospice and Palliative Care Center for their care and concern shown to the family.

Funeral services for Mr. Herbert K. Martin will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Sat-urday, March 15, 2014 at Greater St. John Mission-ary Baptist where the Pastor is Reverend Andre McGhee. Viewing will take place from 12:00 p.m., to 1:00 p.m., at the church. Arrangements have been entrusted with Al-ford's Mortuary. www.alfordsmortuaryinc.com
