Norman E. McDaniel

Norman E. McDaniel, 84, a retired FBI Agent, who resided in Plantation Bay Development, Ormond Beach, died March 29, 2006. Born July 3, 1921, Norman was a native of South Bend, Ind. and was a graduate of Riley High School and Wabash College. He served as a Marine Corps Officer in the Pacific during World War II.

He joined the FBI as a Special Agent in 1947, serving initially in North Carolina and New York City. In 1953 he was transferred to FBI Headquarters where he was assigned as an Agent Supervisor and Inspector's Aide. In the early 1960's he was assigned to Assistant Special Agent in charge of the El Paso, Texas and the Cincinnati, Ohio Field Divisions. In 1965 he was transferred back to FBI Headquarters and promoted to Inspector. He performed inspection duties and served as Executive Assistant to an Assistant Director until his retirement in 1973. For a period in the mid 1970's he was employed as an Investigator for the United States House of Representative Ethics Committee. He was self-employed as an Investigator until 1997. He was an active member of the Society of Former Special Agents of the FBI, also an active member of the Riverview United Methodist Chuch, Ormond Beach, Delta Tau Delta Fraternity and a commissioned Kentucky Colonel.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Payne McDaniel; children, Eric B. McDaniel, Richmond, Va., the late Jill D. Lee, Prince George, Va, Kimberlea Payne Gilbertson, Warrenton, Va.; six grandchildren; brother, Dale McDaniel, Indianapolis, Ind.; and sister, Mirilyn McDaniel, Mishawaka, Ind. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 5 at Riverview United Methodist Church, Ormond Beach, Fla.
