Matthew Mitchell Feb. 24, 1987 - March 21, 2014 SOUTH BEND - Mr. Matthew Dennis Mitchell, age 27, of South Bend, IN, had his life tragically taken from him at 3:00 a.m. on Friday, March 21, 2014, at his residence. Matthew was born to Dennis and Shelia Arnita (Ackey) Mitchell on February 24, 1987, in Atlanta, GA. At the age of two he moved to South Bend with his mother and stepfather, Donald Alford Jr. He was a member of Pentecostal Cathedral COGIC where he formerly attended Sunday School and sang in the Junior Voices.
He graduated from Riley High School.
Matthew was preceded in death by his maternal great-grandparents, Abe & Marie Ackey, maternal grandparents, Robert Ackey and Martha Woods McCoy, paternal grandparents, Dennis W. & Lucille Mitchell, Sr.
Survivors left to cherish his loving memory include his mother, Shelia A. Ackey of Carrollton, GA., his father, Dennis Mitchell of Chicago, IL., his step father of twenty five years, Elder Donald L. (Wilette) Alford, Jr., and his sister, Nicole D. Alford both of South Bend, IN., his brother, Lamont Gipson of Chicago, IL., the child whom he raised and considered his son, Braylean, his step brother, Donald "DJ" Alford and step sister, Chassity (Aaron) Wills, his grandparents, Bishop Donald L. & Mary Irene Alford, Sr., all of South Bend, IN., along with a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Services for Mr. Matthew D. Mitchell will be held at 3:00 p.m., on Saturday, March 29, 2014, at Pentecostal Cathedral Church of God in Christ with viewing occurring from 2:00 p.m., to 3:00 p.m. Arrangements have entrusted with Alford's Mortuary. www.alfordsmortuaryinc.com
