Furman R. Murphy

SOUTH BEND - Today we gather to celebrate the homegoing of Furman Renee Murphy, "Big Murph Style," 52, who on January 13 went home to rest eternally with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. On September 28, 1954, in Statesboro, GA, he was born from the union of Oneida and Dennis Murphy Sr. He and his family moved to South Bend, Indiana, where he attended and graduated from Riley High School in 1972.

Not long after that in 1977 he met his wife, Paulette Murphy; they were joined in marriage June 28, 1993. After serving many years of love, care and dedication to his wife, family, and all those who knew him, he was diagnosed with lupus in 1990 (a form of bone cancer) and was declared disabled since 2000. Furman worked for Uniroyal until they closed. From there he was employed by Penny Saver until they closed down. Throughout the course of his last days at the hospital Furman made it clear to all those who asked that he was not afraid of what was to come because he knew that his life was in the Lord's hands and he was at peace with that. On January 13, that peace was then spread among his wife and family as he took off mortality and put on immortality, and was transferred from this life into the presence of our Lord.

He leaves to cherish his life his wife of 29 years, Paulette Murphy of South Bend; his son, Furman Murphy Jr. (Tamarah); his daughters, Monique (Keith) Pinkney, Tamara (Kevin) Pinkney and Tiffany Murphy, all of South Bend, and a daughter, Trina Anderson of Zenia, OH; two goddaughters, Kelli Groves and Avriana Avance, both of South Bend; two sisters, Vernell Moore and Janice Vanison of Statesboro, GA; a brother, Randy (Valerie) Murphy of Orlando, FL; three living aunts, Adeline Jones of South Bend, and Odell Lee and Ouida Pearson, both of Statesboro; seven granddaughters, Kashmere, Kashay, Kwshay, Anasia and Arianna, all of South Bend, Jaylan and Janna, both of Zenia, OH; and four grandsons, Tavion, Kevin, Emanuel and James Matthew.  "We will miss the rides on Granddad's shoulders, the Ramen Noodles that he would cook for us, the fried Polish sausage with hash browns," they said. These are all accompanied by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who continue to dearly love and will miss Mr. Murphy.

Preceding him in his passing were both his mother, Oneida Murphy, and father, Dennis Murphy Sr.; a brother, Dennis Murphy II; and two nieces, Beverly Clark and Donna Goins, whom he loved very much.

Services for Mr. Furman R. Murphy will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, in Greater St. John M.B. Church, 101 N. Adams St., South Bend, where friends may call one hour before services. Burial will take place on Saturday, Jan. 20, in Statesboro, GA. The Clark-O'Neal Funeral Home has been entrusted with funeral services.
