SOUTH BEND - Thomas Allen Rupert, 72, of South Bend, IN, passed away Tuesday, September 27, 2011, in his home. He was born on August 7, 1939, one of nine children to James and Lillian (Pashe) Rupert in South Bend, IN.
On October 24, 1959, he married Sylvia Sue (Searfoss) in Grace United Methodist Church in South Bend, IN. Tom is survived by his wife, Sylvia "Sue" Rupert; two sons, Rodney A. (Kathy) Rupert of Simi Valley, CA, and Brian T. (Robin) Rupert of Camarillo, CA; five grandchildren, Brandon, Cody, Destiny, Kilee and Kory Rupert; four great-grandchildren, Kensington, Brooklyn, Weslyn and Tony, all of CA. He is also survived by two sisters, Delores Harvey of Mishawaka, IN, and Janet (Richard) Adams of South Bend, IN; and three brothers, George (Ursula) Rupert of Reseda, CA, Bob (Leslie) Rupert of CA and Terry (Carol) Rupert of South Bend, IN.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers, Walt, Larry and Bill Rupert.
Tom and Sue both went to Riley High School but never met until Tom returned from the Army. After they married they moved to CA where they lived for 44 years. Tom was a concrete contractor and Sylvia, along with Rod and Brian, ran the concrete pumping business. Everything in their life revolved around family. Tom was extremely proud to be a father and grandfather. He doted on his "puppies" (grandchildren). It was a two-way love relationship. Tom was loved as much as he loved. Tom had numerous nephews and nieces who were all his favorites. Tom enjoyed hard work, woodworking and, most of all, his family.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 1, 2011, in the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan St., South Bend. The family will receive friends from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.
