ORLANDO, Fla. - Marie Ellen Smyth, 88, of Orlando, Fla., died Sunday, July 15, 2007, in Orlando.

She was born Nov. 16, 1918, in South Bend, Ind., to Irvin and Ellen Cripe. She married J. Vincent Smyth on March 22, 1941, in South Bend.

She attended Riley High School in South Bend. She was employed at Studebaker Corp. in South Bend from 1938 to 1941. She was crowned Miss Studebaker in 1940.

She moved to Crystal Lake in 1963. She belonged to Illinois Children's Home & Aid Society, the Rosary Society, and the Crystal Lake Garden Club. She enjoyed her family, painting, cooking, baking, playing cards and entertaining.

Survivors include her husband, J. Vincent Smyth; her children, Kevin Smyth of Orlando, Brian (Cheryl) Smyth of Sunset, S.C., Ellen Moffo of Cincinnati and Vincent (Cheryl) Smyth of Cary; her grandchildren, Kelly (Oak) McCulloch, Kristin (Erich) Bruhn, Matt Smyth, Mike (Roslyn) Smyth, Kary Clark, Brian J. (Chris) Smyth, Krystal Smyth, Kristina (Nick) Linberg, Michael Moffo, Mariellen Moffo, Tyler Smyth, Kara Smyth, Rob (Debbie) Beard and Rich (Marne) Beard; and 21 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Clifford Cripe, Cecil Cripe, Walt Rhodes, Helen Cripe, Jeanette Cripe and Alice Cripe; and a great-grandchild, Delany.

The memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 28, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 1023 McHenry Ave., Crystal Lake.Interment will be in Windridge Cemetery in Cary. Memorials may be made to Vista Hospice, 5151 Adanson St., Orlando, FL 32804. Sign the guest book at www.NWHerald.com/obits
