Barry Craig Perry - Class Of 1974 VIEW PROFILE

Barry Craig Perry

September 23, 1956 ~ August 21, 2023 (age 66)

Mr. Barry Craig Perry, 66, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, August 21, 2023, in ICU at Beacon-Memorial Hospital South Bend. He was born on September 23, 1956, in South Bend, Indiana to the union of Ellis D. Perry and Sula Mae (Ivory) Perry who both preceded him in death. Barry grew up on the southeast side of South Bend and attended Studebaker Elementary and Riley High Schools.

In 1978 Barry began a relationship with Vernetta Clarajean Cutter and after 20 years of togetherness they united in marriage in March of 1998.  Their 45-year relationship remained until his passing. They share three beautiful children:  two sons, Kenneth (Nicole) Phillips Jr., Craig (Raina) Perry and one daughter, Betrice (Vance) Roberts; 11 grandchildren and one great grandchild who all survive.

In 1998 he moved to Jackson, Tennessee where he lived for 23 years with the love of his life. Barry decided to return to South Bend in May of 2021 to enjoy his family and grandkids.

Barry was a dedicated worker and he worked very hard for his family.  His employment history included the University of Notre Dame for 14 years and Young Touchstone in Jackson, Tennessee for 22 years where he retired from.  Barry loved God and was a man of strong faith. In 2004 he joined Porter Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Humboldt, Tennessee. He was a member for 18 years and served as the president of the male chorus for two years.

Barry loved to dress to impress and was always cleaner than the board of health. He was known for his own personally customized suits and clothes, his brim hats, bow ties, and coordinating handkerchiefs.  He loved Cadillacs and drawing and enjoyed listening to music. His favorite group was the O’Jays.  He also enjoyed sports; his favorite teams were the L.A. Lakers, the Kansas City Chiefs and the Green Bay Packers.  He was an awesome chess player. He loved to crack jokes that left you cry laughing and was always happy to entertain.  Barry was the life of the party and when he was around there was never a dull moment.  He was very thoughtful with several great friends and was truly loved by many.

In addition to his children and grandchildren he is also leaves to cherish his memory, three Goddaughters, Nicole Broadnax, LaKesha Tyler and Charmelle Larkin; five brothers, Eddie, Lamont, Larry and Ronnie (Michele) Perry all of South Bend; Jerry Perry of Indianapolis, Indiana; two sisters, Diane and Lisa Perry both of South Bend along with a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. Along with his parents he was also preceded in death by two sisters, Jenise Perry DeBerry and Ruby Reed and his Godmother, Berdella Blaine.

Barry lived his best life.  He adored his wife who was his everything; he gave her his all. Barry will be remembered for his beautiful and genuine smile, and his amazing heart.  He will truly be missed; but we know that he’s in the arms of the Lord.

A chapter completed; a page turned. A life well lived; a rest well earned.
