Hubert Hunter Ogden

Hubert Hunter Ogden, 83, of 515 E. Monroe St., died at 12:20 p.m. Monday in the Carlyle Nursing Home after a lengthy illness.

He was a teacher at Central High School until 1935, when he was assigned to Riley High School as assistant principal and head of the social studies department. He retired from there in 1963. He was born on Sept. 9, 1899, in Franklin, Ind., and lived in South Bend many years.

On Jan. 6, 1934, in South Bend, he married Mary Alice Landis, who survives. He also is survived by three daughters, Ms. Barbara Ogden of Columbus, Ohio, Mrs. Lynn Carrington of South Bend and Mrs. Pamela Katz of Madison, Wis.; as son, John Hunter Ogden of Westville, Ind.; two sisters, Mrs. Hubert Powell of Franklin and Mrs. William Piers of Indianapolis; and a brother, John Ogden of Atlanta, Ga.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Forest G. Hay Funeral Home, 435 S. Ironwood Dr., Rev. Ervin Gaede, pastor of the Unitarian Church of Ann Arbor, Mich., will officiate. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery. There will be no visitation.

He was a graduate of Franklin College and received his master’s degree from Columbia University. Ogden was a charter member of the Unitarian Church in South Bend and a member of the Indiana Retired Teachers Association.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
