Leroy Wesley Dixon, Sr.
December 30, 1953 ~ October 31, 2023
Mr. Leroy Wesley Dixon, Sr., 69, of Indianapolis, Indiana departed this life on Tuesday, October 31, 2023.
He was born on December 30, 1953 in South Bend, Indiana to the union of the late John Wesley Dixon and the late Sarah (Allen) Dixon. Leroy, affectionately known as, “Uncle Dickey,” and also known as “Tedda Head” by his brothers and sisters, accepted Christ at an early age. He received his formal education in the South Bend Community School Corporation, graduating from Riley High School, Class of 1972. He went on to proudly serve our Country in the U.S. Army until receiving an Honorable Discharged in 1978.
He was united in marriage to Sherlyn McCauley on May 27, 1978; she has been his covering and the love of his life for 51years. They started their beautiful family of three, Sharita, Lanita and Leroy Jr. Leroy’s employment history included the former South Bend Stamping Division of Allied Products, and other manufacturing companies. After retirement he was a dedicated volunteer for the VA and served as Parking Valet. His most recent employment was with Gainbridge Fieldhouse as Security Officer at the Suites.
Leroy’s favorite thing to do was to watch television with his wife, laughing, joking, and just having a good time. He loved his old school music, cooking his famous bar-b-que with his homemade bar-b-que sauce and dancing. More than anything he absolutely loved and adored his children and grandchildren. They were his greatest joy. He enjoyed spending time with them and bragging about their numerous and great accomplishments. He proudly boasted about his son, Leroy Jr. winning a gold medal representing the U.S. in the 2007 World Championships in Osaka, Japan. Leroy was an avid football fan. His favorite teams were the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame, the Chicago Bears and the Pittsburgh Steelers. He also enjoyed basketball and his favorite team was the Los Angeles Lakers.
Along with his parents, Leroy was also preceded in death by three brothers, John Dixon Jr., George Dixon Sr., and Dennis Dixon Sr.; a sister Katy May affectionately known as Diane; a brother-in-law Doyle Nesbitt; a sister-in-law Casinia Dixon; three nephews George Dixon Jr., Melvin Dixon, and Termel Phillips; a niece Atia Burnett; a very good friend Eddie White; and his fathers-in-law, Harold McCauley and Sears Staples.
Leroy leaves to cherish his memory his lovely wife Sherlyn Dixon, his children Sharita Dixon and Lanita Dixon both of Indianapolis, and Leroy Dixon Jr. of Thousand Oaks, California; his grandchildren Amiyah King, Londyn Dixon, Tania Jackson, Amari Tyson and Brooklyn Star Williams; his mother-in law Anna McCauley; three sisters Ivory Mae (Willie) Morris of Moreno Valley, California, Dorothy Ivery of Mazatlán, Mexico and Kathleen (Derrick) Frye of Long Beach, California; one brother James Dixon also of Long Beach; brothers-in-law, Rev. Eugene Staples, Eric McCauley, Derek/Simba McCauley and Larry Lockett; two sisters-in-law Jackie Nesbitt, and Sherece McCauley; a special niece/sister LaTasha (Steven) Reindl of Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin; nine nieces, fav Cassidy (Terrence Sr.) Reid, LaTasha (Larry) Thomas, Shayla Nesbitt, Lamia Wilson Monica Clark, Latoya Lewis, Devin, Sydney and Zuri McCauley; two nephews Heru McCauley and Dennis Jr. (Teela) Dixon, and his favorite aunt Pat Williams and a son-in -law Jimmie Williams; special friends Gordon Bethel, Charlie Taylor, A.D. (Forestine) Jackson and, Barnabus Reeves, and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was a great husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. Leroy will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew him.
