Michael Sean McGirr

January 16, 1957 ~ January 7, 2024

Michael Sean McGirr, aged 66, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 7, 2024, in Granger, Indiana. Born on January 16, 1957, in Chicago, Illinois. Michael’s warmth, sense of humor, and genuine desire to connect with others left an indelible mark on the hearts of those he encountered.

Michael was the beloved husband of Lisa Ann (Foster) McGirr, whom he married on December 22, 1984, in Tampa, Florida. He was a devoted father to his children, Ryan S. McGirr (Amanda Reagan), Tyler P. McGirr, and Molly E. McGirr. His role as “Poppo” to Laylah, Doug, and Ayden was one he cherished deeply, and his guidance and love will continue to shape their lives.

The son of the late Jack and Janet (Tisdel) McGirr, he shared a special bond with his brother, Scott D. (Maria Kaczmarek) McGirr, with whom he shared countless memories and life’s milestones.

Michael was a proud graduate of Riley High School and furthered his education at Holy Cross College. His commitment to his country was evident through his service in the U.S. Navy.

Michael’s career was in both computer sales and consulting. His colleagues respected him for his innovative ideas and the genuine care he showed to clients and coworkers alike. Michael was passionate about basketball and enjoyed sharing stories of the years he played at both Marshall grade school and Jackson/ Riley high school. As a father, he coached his sons’ basketball and baseball teams, and many days were spent in the gym or out at the ballpark. As a member of the Knollwood Country Club, he found a community of friends and an outlet for his love of golf.

Memorial donations may be made to either the YMCA of Michiana or Clay JBA.

The family would like to thank The Center for Hospice for the loving care they provided.

A memorial visitation will be held from 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm, Saturday, January 13, 2024 at Palmer Funeral Home – Welsheimer North Chapel 17033 Cleveland Rd. South Bend, Indiana 46635.  Online condolences may be left at www.palmerfuneralhomes.com
