Sandra H Malott, 83, of Sanibel Island died peacefully on the evening of April 29, 2022. Sandra was known for her sweet smile, compassion for all, and willingness to help others.
She left behind her beloved husband of 64 years, Thomas J Malott (Sanibel, FL) and her three children Jennifer Malott Kotylo (Chicago, IL), Thomas J Malott Jr. (Palm Springs, CA), and Leslie Malott Yarbrough (Southern Pines, NC).
Sandra enjoyed Atlanta Braves baseball and was thrilled to have witnessed the team clinch the World Series, not once, but twice. She was the co-founder of The Malott Innovation Awards and the GEARE programs for Purdue University’s School of Mechanical Engineering. She enjoyed gardening, reading the Island Sun Newspaper, and golfing; especially when she could beat her husband. She had a deep affection for Sanibel and in her younger years was often seen hunting for shells by flashlight while others slept. She won multiple awards for her shell collection throughout the years. Ultimately though, motherhood was her crowning achievement. She was the most thoughtful and steadfast caregiver to her family. Caring for her children and grandchildren was her true gift. Jennifer, Thomas, and Leslie were brought up in a home surrounded with love, fresh cookies, and always a shoulder to cry on. She will be greatly missed.
A Celebration of Sandy’s Life will take place next fall on her beloved Sanibel. (Details to follow.) In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the following Sanibel organizations that were near and dear to Sandy’s heart - The Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife (crowclinic.org), or The Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum specifically the Adopt-a-Class Program (shellmuseum.org).
