SOUTH BEND - Hal E. Weiss, a longtime resident of Sun Lakes, passed away January 27, 2014, in Chandler, Arizona. Hal was born July 6, 1934, to Ralph and Mildred Weiss in South Bend, Indiana. The youngest child in a family of six children, Hal was preceded in death by his parents and his 5 siblings, Richard, John, Mary, Leonard and Anne.

Hal graduated from Riley High School in 1952 and went right to work for Bell Telephone, now AT&T, where he worked for over 40 years. While first a repairman, he soon moved up to Supervisor of various departments including security.

Hal also served two years in the United States Army, including an assignment in Korea. In 1978 Hal became Certified as an Open Water Diver. He enjoyed many international underwater adventures including exploring the Bikini Atoll in the South Pacific and the Blue Hole in Belize. After retirement from the telephone company, he worked for the Indianapolis Speedway as an Information Specialist. He enjoyed this job very much as he was a great fan of racing. Hal loved people and this job let him enjoy a great sport and make many new friends.

Hal was a Life Member of the Elks, belonged to the Free Masons for over 50 years and was a member of the Scottish Rite. In the early 1990s, Hal left the Midwest and moved to Sun Lakes, Arizona. Here he was able to enjoy golfing, water volleyball, off-road Jeeping, and many other activities year round. It was in the West that Hal attended his first rodeo with his nephew Tom and became hooked on this sport. He went to many rodeos throughout Arizona and never missed Prescott Frontier Days. It was in Sun Lakes that he met Georgia Ebeling, who became his best friend and loving companion. Together they shared many adventures together including travel all over the United States as well as international travel. Even when Hal was ill, he had a smile for everyone and was always known as a true gentleman. He will be missed by his family and the many friends he has made over the years.

Hal leaves behind Georgia; nephews, Tom Walker and John Miller; and nieces, Pam Schwindt, Deborah William, Laura Zeman, Linda Manning and Nancy Haven. Also, sister-in-law, Beverly Weiss, who often hosted Hal & friends during their Indianapolis trips.

A Memorial Service will be held February 22nd at 10:00 AM at the Sun Lakes Chapel, 9240 E. Sun Lakes Blvd. in Sun Lakes, AZ. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity in Hal's honor.
