Donna Fonseca, 89, passed away on Saturday, October 16, 2021.  Donna was born on March 7, 1932, in Francesville, Indiana to William and Martha Evelyn (Linback) Rankin.  She was preceded in death by both parents and two sisters, Carol Taylor and Joanne Edens.  The family moved to South Bend and she graduated from Riley High School.  After graduating from Riley, Donna received her beautician license from the College of Cosmetology.  She owned and operated a beauty salon for 40 years.  In 1951, she married Val Fonseca.  He preceded her in death in 2000.

Donna is survived by one daughter, Candy (Pat) Gnivecki of South Bend; a son, Todd (Joanne) Fonseca of Andover, Minnesota; six grandchildren, Kevin (Tracy) Gnivecki, Kelly (Andy) Kominowski, Aaron, Justin, Ryan, and Nathan Fonseca; five great grandchildren, Will Jaquess, Kaylee and Ethan Gnivecki, Mila, and Taylor Kominowski.

After a short marriage to longtime companion, William Roggeman, who preceded her in 2008, she is survived by five stepchildren, Bill (Sandy), John (Bev), Rob (Lisa), Steve (Michelle), and Rich Roggeman;  step grandchildren, Andy (Mona), Adam (Heather) Gemmer, Rachel (Dan) Zeiger, Chad, Clare (Blake) Johnson, Maggie (Max) Massengill, Julie (Tyler) McCobb, Jordan, Keri Presnell, Tyler, Quinten, Meleah and Maddy Roggeman; and step great grandchildren, Zayden Brock, Grant and Evan Zeiger.

Donna was a faithful member of St. Bavo Church in Mishawaka.  She was a member of South Bend Alumni, Mishawaka Alumni, and the Riley Ladies Lunch Bunch.

Football was her favorite sport, especially Notre Dame, which she supported and watched every week during the season.  She enjoyed playing the accordion and joined Gene Van’s Adult Band for a few years.  Donna also took great pride tending to her vegetable garden in late summer canning these items for neighbors and the winter.

Donna especially sends her love and huge “Thank You” to her dear and close friends, Eloise Alvey, Sandra Morgan, and Joan (Croppie) Regal.  “Love to all!”

Visitation will be held on Thursday October 21st from 4 pm-7 pm in Hahn Funeral Home 505 W. 8th Street Mishawaka with a Prayer Service at 6:30 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday at 10 am in St. Bavo Catholic Church Mishawaka with entombment will follow in Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum in Mishawaka.
