Irene (Kuzmic) Gregorits

SOUTH BEND - Irene Gregorits passed away peacefully on the morning of October 27 surrounded by her family. Irene Catherine Kuzmic was born in South Bend, Indiana on August 9, 1926.

She attended Riley High School, followed by the Julliard School of Music in New York City, which nurtured her love of music for the rest of her life.

She performed in choral groups in South Bend, Indiana; Fairfax, Virginia; and Sarasota, Florida. One of her most memorable choral performances took place in Rome before Pope John Paul II in 1987. For many years she enjoyed singing and directing the choir at St. Bernadette's Church in Springfield, Virginia.

This love of music was exceeded by her love and devotion to her husband, six children and 14 grandchildren. Her family will forever cherish her charming smile, sense of humor and generosity toward others.

She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Robert, and her children: Kathryn Bregman (Bob) of New York City, Nancy Multer (Gary) of Boston, Robert Gregorits (Angela) of Fairfax Station, John Gregorits (Rita) of Burke, Andrea Mackay (Iain) of London, England, Jennifer McMarlin (Dave) of Fairfax and 14 grandchildren.

The funeral will be held at St. Bernadette's Church on Wednesday, October 30 at 12:00pm. The viewing will take place at the church preceding the funeral at 10:00am. In honor of her memory, the family has requested donations be made to the tuition fund at St. Bernadette's School, 7600 Old Keene Mill Road, Springfield, Virginia 22152.
