Betty E. (Whitmer) Morris
Betty E. Morris July 24, 1923 - April 19, 2015 SOUTH BEND - Betty E. (Whitmer) Morris, 91, of Buffalo Grove, IL, passed away on April 19, 2015. She was born on July 24, 1923, in South Bend, IN, to the late Arthur and Genevieve (Hawkins) Whitmer. Betty is survived by three children, Jeff (Ruth) Morris of Chapmansboro, TN, Mindy McClellan of Buffalo Grove, IL, and Cindy Flynn of Canton, MI; two grandsons, Chris and Ryan McClellan; sister, Mary Overmyer; and brothers, James (Sylvia) Whitmer of South Bend and Donn (Betty) Whitmer of Venice, FL.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert D. Whitmer, and son-in-law, Dan McClellan.
Betty graduated from Riley High School, receiving her Bachelor's from Indiana University and her Master's from Eastern Michigan University.
She was a dedicated teacher and counselor, teaching at Centre and Jefferson Elementary schools in South Bend before moving to Michigan, where she was a counselor at East and Pioneer Middle schools and Plymouth Salem High School. In her spare time she loved fashion, ballroom dancing, the Hoosiers and the Boilermakers, but most of all, watching her grandsons play basketball.
Services will take place on Monday, April 27, at 2:00 p.m. at Palmer Funeral Home - Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan Street, South Bend, IN 46614, officiated by Rev. Greg Crump. Visitation will be take place at the funeral home 2 hours prior to the services. Graveside services will follow at Southlawn Cemetery.
