Marilyn Louise Anderson (Witt)

Marilyn L. (Anderson) Witt

April 22, 1951 ~ October 3, 2021 (age 70)

Marilyn L. Witt, née Anderson, 70, of South Bend, Indiana passed away on Sunday, October 3, 2021 at 5:30 am surrounded by her loving family. She was born on April 22, 1951 in South Bend to the late Edwin J. and Marcella L. (Gillen) Anderson. Also preceded in death was a brother-in-law Tom (Connie) Witt of Augusta, South Carolina.

Marilyn is survived by her husband of 51 years, David A. Witt of South Bend, Indiana. She is also survived by one son, Greg (Joelle) Witt of South Bend, Indiana, one daughter, Emily Witt of South Bend, Indiana, four grandchildren, Ethan Dowling, Kaitlyn Witt, Connor Witt, and Bennett Strohan, two sisters, Barbara (Dan) Shepperd of Muncie, Indiana, Sue (Kenny) Goralczyk of South Bend, Indiana, one brother, Ed (Rita) Anderson of Woodlawn, Illinois, one brother-in-law, Mike Witt of Mena, Arkansas, a sister-in-law, Marsha (Bruce) Rufer of South Bend, Indiana, as well as many, many cherished nieces and nephews.

Marilyn attended Lincoln Elementary School, where she met the man who would later become her husband, David Witt. Their relationship spanned over 58 years. Marilyn was a graduate of Riley High School, Class of 1969. On May 16, 1970, Marilyn married her middle school sweetheart. After some time down in Orlando, Florida, Marilyn and David returned to South Bend where they would raise a family and spend the rest of her life together.

Marilyn had many jobs over the years, most notably at Studebaker Elementary School in South Bend and at Olive Elementary School in New Carlisle. In the late 1990's, she began her 22 year career with the South Bend Police Department, Records Division. She lovingly referred to the many, many officers she encountered over the years as her "boys." Marilyn begrudgingly retired from the South Bend Police Department in September of 2019.

She was an avid animal lover, which was always apparent by the menagerie of pets that could be found in her home at any given time. Currently, her two golden retrievers, Barney and Andy, are missing her very much.

Marilyn was very passionate in her beliefs and the way things should be done! Before her illness took control, Marilyn took pride in tending to her yearly multiple flower patches. She enjoyed her children and her grandchildren immensely. Marilyn had a wonderful laugh that the whole room would notice.

Flowers may be sent to Kaniewski's Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Marilyn's name to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, Elara Hospice, or the St. Joseph County Humane Society.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, October 9, 2021 from 12:00 until 2:00 pm in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Dr., South Bend, Indiana. A Catholic Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 pm in the funeral home. To leave online condolences please visit  www.kaniewski.com
