Murray J. Starling, Sr.

June 11, 1954 ~ August 12, 2021 (age 67)

Mr. Murray J. Starling, Sr., 67, passed away at his residence on the afternoon of Thursday, August 12, 2021. Murray was born on June 11, 1954 to the late Roosevelt and Bessie (Mounds) Starling.

A life-long resident of South Bend, Murray was faithfully employed as a factory dye setter for South Bend Stamping for 28 years before retiring. On July 15, 1995, Murray was united in marriage to the former Bettie C. Woods, who survives. Murray was a devoted and loving husband; father, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his loving wife of 26 years, Bettie Starling of South Bend, Murray is survived by a son, Murray J. Starling, Jr. of Elkhart, IN; two stepsons: Michael Woods of Savannah, GA and Kenneth Woods-Adams of Chicago, IL; five grandchildren and four step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters: Evangelist Ernestine Jones, Martha Bowles and Florence Starling, all of South Bend; two brothers, William “Billy” Starling of South Bend and Roosevelt (Candice) Starling of Los Angeles, CA; special cousins Pamela Jackson and Gayle Howard, both of South Bend; special nieces Quila Pettus, Myra McEwen and Carrie Bird, all of South Bend; special nephew Tyrone Starling of Grand Rapids, MI; as well as a host of extended family members and friends.

In addition to his parents, Murray was preceded in death by a son, Ernesto Starling.

Services for Mr. Murray J. Starling will be held on Friday, August 20, 2021 at 12:00 PM at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, 1862 N. Olive Street, South Bend, IN 46628. Pastor Anthony Pettus will officiate. Friends may call on the family for one hour prior to services at the church. Burial to follow at Highland Cemetery.
