SOUTH BEND - Velta M. (George) Grubbs, 78, of South Bend, died Monday November 4, 2013 at Memorial Hospital. Velta was born in Karnak, IL on October 21, 1935.
She was a graduate of Riley High School and married John E. Grubbs on November 4, 1955 in Santa Anna CA.
She was a homemaker, member of Faith United Methodist Church, a Den Mother for the Boy Scouts, enjoyed bowling & knitting and was actively involved with the Pet Refuge and their foster home program.
Velta was preceded in death by her mother, Effie (Franklin) George; her husband, John E. Grubbs; son James Grubbs; and her daughter-in-law, Kathleen S. Grubbs.
She is survived by her sons, Brian E. (Mary Ash) Grubbs of South Bend, Andrew L. (Lynn) Grubbs in Florida and John Eric (Mary) Grubbs of Blue Rapids KS; daughters, Mary L. Grubbs of South Bend, and Velita A. (Roger) Embry of South Bend; thirteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services are 10:00 AM Friday, November 8, 2013 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Hwy. Friends may call Thursday from 4-8pm. Burial in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
