Evalyn L. (Schrader) Erickson

Evalyn L. Erickson, age 86, of Wichita Falls, Tex-as took the hand of Jesus Thursday morning, De-cember 3, 2015. Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at First Presbyterian Church in Wichita Falls, with Dr. Isaac Butterworth officiating. Interment will follow in Crestview Memo-rial Park under the direction of Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home. Evalyn Lorraine Schrader was born in South Bend, Indiana on January 19,1929, to Clifford A. and Mamie 0. Bartholomew Schrader, the fourth child with 3 brothers and 2 sisters. She enjoyed glee club and ice skating during her high school years.

She attended Indiana University where she met her future husband, Wayne Erickson, a geology major. They married on February 3, 1950 and moved to Wichita Falls after he earned his master's degree in petroleum geology. The young couple moved 6 times during the first 9 years of their marriage, a result of transfers due to his job. They and their 3 children finally returned to Wichita Falls in 1959 where she lived the rest of her life.

Evalyn was always busy with varied interests and activities. She loved to sing, played the piano, and was a league bowler for many years. She studied and applied nutrition to her family's lifestyle. She also refin-ished antique furniture, learned macrame, crocheted and knitted a plethora of sweaters and Afghans, gardened, did home canning and preserving, sewed most of her young daughters' clothes, and took continuing education classes at MSU in computer applications, conversational Spanish, and pistol marksmanship. Additionally, she wrote an extensive work on family genealogy over the course of 20 years. She was involved in state and local politics, and was a neighborhood watch chairperson and recording secretary. She volunteered for 13 years at the Wichita General Hospital, earning her 1,000 hour pin. Evalyn was a member of First Presbyterian Church since 1960. She was a lifelong learner, and interested in many things, but love for her family was her passion.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, one sister, and her husband, Wayne.

Survivors include her daughter Christine McGregor and husband, John of Clay County; daughter Julie Hines and husband, Gordon of Heber City, Utah; son David and wife, Donna of Fort Worth; her sister, Susanne Schrader of Dallas; four grandchildren, Joanna Boone and husband, Duane of Paradise; Amanda McBride of Springtown; Connor Hines of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Ryan Erickson of Milsa, Oklahoma; and four great-grandchildren, Abigail and Alexis McBride: and Weston and Wyatt Boone.
