Sarah Jane Place

Jan. 6, 1940 - Mar.1, 2005

Sarah Jane Place of Framingham, Mass., formerly of South Bend, passed away March 1 after a courageous 8-year battle against cancer. Sarah was born in Gary, IN, to the late Andrew and Georgia Place. She was raised in South Bend, and after she graduated from Riley High School, she headed east to Boston. There she graduated from Garland Jr. College. Sarah retired last year from IBM after 36 years of loyal service. Sarah never knew a stranger. Her quick wit and wonderful sense of humor created a wealth of friendships. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. An extremely social person, she was a card and game player, loved to travel, and was an avid gardener, art lover and in general loved life. Her illness only forced her to slow down in the last year or so.

Sarah is survived by her sister, Sandra Kelly; her sister, Kay (Scott) Alexander; her brother, Andrew (Annetta) Place; her sister, Kris (Tom) Felton; her nine nieces and nephews, and her nine great-nieces and her nephews; her aunt, Marie Trammell; her aunt, Mary Anna (John) Birdzell; her uncle, Robert (Beverly) Place; her aunt, Janet (Henry) Amt; her uncle, Virgil (Irena) Place; her aunt, Mary Jean (Frank) Place; her dear friend, John Paladino; as well as many close cousins and their families. A garden memorial service at Sarah's home is being planned for early June. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Garden in the Woods, Hemenway Road, Framingham, MA 01701; or to the Hospice of St. Joseph County, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.

March 1, 2005, of Framingham, passed away at Lasell House. She fought a courageous battle against cancer for 8 years. Sarah was born in Gary, IN and was raised in South Bend, IN. After graduation from Garland Jr. College she decided to stay in the Boston area. She retired from IBM after 36 years of loyal service. Sarah never knew a stranger, her quick wit and wonderful sense of humor created a wealth of friendships. She will be be greatly missed by all who knew her. Sarah's family would like to express their gratitude to all of the staff at Newton Wellesley Hospital for their loving care. A garden memorial service at Sarah's home is being planned for early June.
