Max Wallace Bauman, 67, of Village Drive, Mishawaka, IN, passed away of natural causes on Tuesday, November 16, 2004.

He is survived by two daughters, Lisa Wiersema, M.D. (Maurits) of Fort Wayne, IN, and Emile J. Bauman of Mishawaka, IN, and a son, Joseph E. of Granger, IN. Also surviving are two sisters, Teresa (John) Hemphill and Dolores “Lori” (Carl) Drawert, both of South Bend, IN; two grandchildren, Mathew and Michael Wiersema; seven nieces, and eight great-nieces and nephews.

He was born on May 27, 1937, to Joseph L. Bauman and Berniece (Rassi) Bauman in South Bend. They both preceded him I death.

Mr. Bauman was a graduate of Riley High School in 1955 with honors and was president of the student council, co-captain of the football team 1954 N.I.C. champions. He attended the University of Notre Dame.

He worked for his father, Joseph L. Bauman, Landscape Architect and Design for 20 years before starting his own business, Max Bauman & Associates Landscape Architect and Design. His life’s work of landscape artistry and skills are evident throughout northern Indiana and southern Michigan, most notably the University of Notre Dame Library, the Notre Dame J.A.C.C., Concord Mall, Elkhart, IN; Scottsdale Mall, South Bend, IN; Southlake Mall, Merrillville, IN; in addition to area businesses and homes

His appreciation and love for nature, ability to inspire, and gentle spirit will be missed.

Funeral services for Mr. Bauman will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, November 19, in Grace United Methodist Church, 3012 Twyckenham Drive, South Bend. Rev. Hosea Drake, pastor of the church, will officiate. Graveside services and burial will follow at Milford Cemetery, Milford, IN. The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend.
