Thomas (Tom) Gurbick (age 92) of South Bend, died of old age at 2:45PM on Saturday, 3 December at Brookdale Assisted Living facility. Mr.Gurbick was born in South Bend in the summer of 1930 to Lillian (Krzeszewski) and Nicholas Gurbick, and lived in South Bend most of his life.


On 14 March 1953 at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery Alabama, he married the love of his life, June M. Fagan, who preceded him in death 21 years ago. He is survived by a son, Tim, of Indiana.


Mr.Gurbick was a veteran of the US Air Force, during the Korean War era. He retired from Allied-Signal after 33 years. He also retired later as sexton from the Episcopal Cathedral of Saint James, after serving over 20 years. He enjoyed outdoor work, old westerns, playing accordion with the Serbian band as a young man, and classic-era TV.


Memorial services will be held at a later date, at the Episcopal Cathedral of Saint James, 117 North Lafayette Boulevard, with the Very Reverend Brian Grantz officiating. Cremation has taken place, and entombment beside June in the columbarium of the cathedral will follow the service. There will be no visitation.


Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 130 Red Coach Drive Mishawaka, IN 46545, a hospice group of your choice (special thanks to Caring Cove Hospice for their excellent service during his final days), or to the Cathedral of Saint James.
