Sept. 9, 1923 – April 15, 2007 MISHAWAKA — Meinard “Fred”Crofoot, 83, of Mishawaka, IN, died at 7:01 PM Sunday, April 15, 2007, in Memorial Hospital, South Bend. Fred retired in 1988 from Interstate Brand’s Butternut Bakery after 38 years of service, last holding a general manager’s position in Cincinnati, OH. He was born on September 9, 1923, in South Bend, IN, to Meinard F.and Alline (Diehl) Crofoot Sr., and had moved back to this area in 2003, coming from Cincinnati.

On August 16, 1942, in South Bend, IN, he married Betty J.Seifer, who survives. Along with his loving wife of 64 years, Betty J.Crofoot, he is survived by his son, Tim (Jane) Crofoot of Superior, WI;daughter-in-law, Cindy Crofoot of Cincinnati, OH; four grandchildren, Conan (Jenny) Crofoot, Winter (Christina) Crofoot, Arianna (Brian) Throme and Grae (Traci) Crofoot;two great-grandchildren, Justin and Catrina;one sister, Laurie Jonas of South Bend;and one brother, Curtis Crofoot of North Liberty.

He was preceded in death by a son, Tod Crofoot in 2000;his sister, Jean Owens; and by a brother, Ivan Crofoot.

Fred was a World War II Army veteran and received two Purple Hearts and other various medals, and was proud of fighting at the Battle of the Bulge as a combat infantry- man.He was a graduate of Riley High School. Fred was always smiling and friendly to everyone.

There will no visitation or services.Interment will take place at Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend.Palmer Funeral Home- River Park, South Bend, is assisting the family with arrangements
