Eugene E.Micinski
Oct. 17, 1921 – July 28, 2004
Eugene E.Micinski, 82, formerly of South Edison, South Bend, Ind., passed away at 5:45 a.m.on Wednesday, July 28, in Cardinal Nursing Home. He was born on Oct.17, 1921, in South Bend, to Casimir and Clara (Kowalski) Micinski, who preceded him in death along with a brother, Raymond “Bob”Micinski. Eugene married Melvine “Molly” Lukasiewicz, who passed away on July 27, 1994.
Surviving Eugene is a daughter, Susan Micinski of South Bend; a sister, Ruth (William) Dolde of South Bend; a niece, Anne (David) Johnson of South Bend; a nephew, Stuart Dolde of South Bend; and a special friend and companion, Alice.Mrozinski.
Eugene retired after 37 ½ years as a clerk for the U.S. Post Office. He was a member of Holy Family Church, where he was a former choir member, the Harvest House at Holy Family, the International Clerk’s Union, and the American Legion Post #284. Eugene honorably served our country as a Corporal in the Army during World War II in Europe, during which he earned the American Theatre Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal and European African Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon with three Bronze Service Stars. He was an avid Notre Dame football fan;he especially liked hearing the band play the victory march. He enjoyed gardening and playing cards and his faithful dog, Maggie.Eugene enjoyed going to movies and plays and he loved to travel. Eugene was a member of the Golden Cluster and belonged to the 50 and over club.In high school he was know as Gene the “Jeep”. He was a member of the Riley High School over the hill gang.
Visitation will be today, July 30, from 2 to 8 p.m.in the St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S.Mayflower Road, where a Rosary will be prayed at 4:30 p.m.Funeral Services will be at 10 a.m.Saturday, July 31, in Holy Family Church.Burial will be at St.Joseph Cemetery, South Bend. Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Family Church or to the donor’s choice
