Robert R. Natharius
SOUTH BEND - Robert R. “Bob” Natharius, 93, of South Bend, IN, died on Tuesday, June 28, in his daughter's residence following an illness. Mr. Natharius was born March 9, 1923, to the late Mary ( Knapp) and Julius Natharius and was a longtime South Bend resident.
On November 3, 1951, in South Bend, he married Sarah C. Hatch who passed away on November 30, 2010. Surviving are four daughters: Deb Farmer (Jim) and Sally Zablocki (Jim) both of Granger, Cindy Mark of Dublin, OH, and Mary Duncan (Brien) of Veedersburg, IN ; eight grandchildren: Kate and Lauren Farmer, Kristina Youdath (Brian), Alex Mark, Emily and Amanda Zablocki, Liz Duncan, and Matt Duncan (Audrey) and one brother, Donald Natharius. Bob was preceded in death by one brother, Edward Natharius.
Bob served his country in the Navy during WWII as an airplane mechanic. After returning home, he completed a toolmakers apprenticeship at Bendix Corporation, where he was employed for 44 years. Retiring in 1985, he began a career as Grandpa. He also enjoyed helping his son-in-law with fall harvests.
He was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church in South Bend. He was active in many Masonic Organizations where he was a Thirty-third Degree Mason. He was also active in Scottish Rite, Avalon Grotto, and Commandery; and he was a DeMolay “dad” for many years. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 2nd, at Saint Joseph Valley Memorial Park Cemetery (Mausoleum), 375 W. Cleveland Road, Granger.
