Marian Ruth Moore (Simcox Scott)

Marian R. (Moore) Simcox Scott

February 21,1918 — April 13, 2006

Marian Ruth (Simcox) Scott of South Bend, IN, passed away Thursday, April 13, 2006, in Holy Cross Care and Rehabilitation Center. Marian was born February 21, 1918, in Gary, IN, to the late Leo and Ruth Moore. She was their only child. After living in LaPorte as a small child, her parents moved to South Bend where she lived her entire life. She attended Madison Elementary and graduated from James Whitcomb Riley High School.

On May 3, 1941, she married "the boy next door", Raymond "Pete" Simcox who preceded her in death August 1982. As a young woman Marian worked for the Indiana State Employment office helping her parents through the depression years. After marriage she was a-stay-at-home-Mom for her two daughters. A real Betty Crocker wife and mother of the 40's and 50's. Starting in the early 60's she worked for the South Bend Tribune as a telephone operator for almost 25 years. She was a very "Classy Gal Friday" and loyal employee.

She met Vern Scott on a blind date through her co-workers in 1986 and they married January 1990. For almost 20 years they have been lovingly side by side. They spent a number of winters in Florida and Texas exploring and bird watching. Their days in South Bend were spent touring the nearby countryside, attending auctions, fairs and concerts. They took many bus tours to favorite senior destinations. In the past few years their trips have been closer to home visiting their hometowns of La Porte and Tyner. Most recently their trips to Honkers on Day Road had been their daily adventure.

Marian is survived by her husband, Vern; two daughters, Judith Simcox and Barbara Coddens; and son-in-law, Kenneth Coddens all of Mishawaka. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Lori (Ben) Snyder of Mishawaka, Daniel (Robbin) Coddens of Marshall, MI, and Teresa (Eric) Crittendon of South Bend. Other survivors include three step-children, Susan (Forest) Milbourn of South Bend, Richard (Sandy) Scott of North Liberty, Peggy (Ron) Akin of Surprise, AZ; nine step-grandchildren, Cindy (John) Marino, Scott Milbourn, Chris (Kim) Scott, Rick (Denise) Scott, Nicole Akin, all of South Bend, Tony (Melissa) Akin of Dallas, TX, and Rebecca Akin of Tempe, AZ. Together she and Vern had 16 great-grandchildren, Rachel Trowbridge, Owen Osborn, Karlee and Lanie Coddens, Alexis, Bryce and Caleb Crittendon, Daniel and Nathan Marino, Traci, Nichole, Kaylee, Garrett, Ansiley, Britley and Wyatt Scott. She is also survived by three sister-in-laws and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
