ELKHART - Dorothy J. Cunningham, 82, died at 7:35 p.m. Sunday, April 8, in the Eastlake Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Elkhart. She was born March 1, 1925, in Lincoln, IL, to Thomas and Mabel (Frame) Fansler.

She married Joseph J. Cunningham October 30, 1948, in South Bend, and he died March 4, 1993. Surviving are two daughters, Sandra L. Pratt of Phoenix, AZ, and Susan L. (Stephen) Tucci of Wappinger Falls, NY; three sons, Joseph J. (Janice) Cunningham III of Venice, FL, Timothy J. (Jennifer) Cunningham and John P. (Lori) Cunningham, both of Elkhart; 11 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

A son, Thomas J. Cunningham, and a brother, Robert Fansler, preceded her in death.

Mrs. Cunningham was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Bristol, a member of the Garden Club, a life member of the Elks Lodge, and a former member of the Elcona Country Club and Four Arts Club. She was an avid bowler, loved fishing, and in earlier years served as a den mother. Mrs. Cunningham served as secretary for the Cunningham Lincoln Mercury Dealership in Elkhart until her retirement in 1986.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday in the Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home, where there will be a vigil service at 6:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Bristol, with burial at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. Memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care or to the Elkhart County Humane Society.
