SOUTH BEND - Della K. Davis, 82, formerly of South Bend, passed away at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 11, 2008, in Miller's Merry Manor, Plymouth, IN. Mrs. Davis was born on September 15, 1925, in South Bend, to the late William A. and Harryetta (Barnes) Smith. She had been a lifelong resident.

On July 3, 1943, in South Bend, she married Vaughn E. Davis, who preceded her in death on February 1, 1995. Mrs. Davis was also preceded in death by her infant son, William G. Davis; a daughter-in-law, Sally Davis; a sister, Peggy Springer; and a brother, Arthur Smith.

Mrs. Davis retired in 1980 from Robertson's Department Store where she had worked in the payroll department for 17 years. She retired in 1990 from Lake City Heat Treating, Warsaw, where she had worked for five years. Mrs. Davis was a former member of Southlawn United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Davis is survived by two daughters, Patricia J. (Race) Hickman of Lakeville and Nancy A. (Gifford) Torbenson of South Bend; two sons, Gerald L. Davis of Lakeville and William E. (Deborah) Davis of Plymouth; 13 grandchildren, Douglas L. Davis, William G. Davis, Steven B. Davis, John B. Davis, Julianna B. Whiteman, Jeffrey S. Torbenson, Michelle L. Paul, Scott A. Davis, Heather K. Tolbert, James W. Davis, Katherine M. Davis, Brandy L. Sherk and Jeremy W. Hickman; 25 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Helen (Robert) Strong and Ruby (Clifford) Daniels, both of South Bend; and a sister-in-law, Jean Smith of Colorado.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 15, in the Palmer Funeral Home, Lakeville. Rev. Andy Kaser will officiate. Graveside services and burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend. Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 14th, in the Palmer Funeral Home, Lakeville. The Davis family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Miller's Merry Manor in Plymouth for the kind and compassionate care provided to Della. Contributions in memory of Della K.
