MAXINE L. (FUNK) HAMILTON

MAXINE LUCILLE HAMILTON, 96, of Fort Wayne, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013. Born Oct. 24, 1916, in Waterloo, Ind., she was a daughter of John and Ruby Funk. Maxine attended Riley High School, South Bend, Ind.

For 53 years, Maxine was the loving wife of Herbert Franklin Hamilton; he preceded her in death in 2006. She worked as secretary to the Secretary at the Y.M.C.A., served as a faithful member of both the Fort Wayne Gospel Temple and Westview Alliance Church, as well as founded and chaired the Christian Business and Professional Women's Council. "Maxine lived her life by Proverbs 31." She had a servant's heart and devoted her life to the care of others through numerous ministries and charities, including leading a women's Bible study for 40 years and actively supporting Samaritan's Purse. She also served the community through her music, playing piano and organ, singing, and leading a music ministry. "She was dearly loved by all who knew her, and will be remembered and missed for her humility, her gentle nature, and her selflessness."

She is survived by her two sons, Brent and Michael (Debbie); grandchildren, Riley and Jazmin; sister, Marjorie Knee; nephews, Eric (Laura) Knee and Logan Choka; cousin, Neil (Von) Clay and his family; the extended Thong family; and countless others that were touched by her life.

Memorial service is 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, at Westview Alliance Church, 9804 Illinois Road, Fort Wayne, with viewing from 10 to 11 a.m. Arrangements by Johnson Funeral Home, Hudson.
