Helen (Felty) Sowers

GRANGER - Helen Sowers, 95, formerly of Granger, IN, was born in Fulton County on September 22, 1913, to the late Emily (Martindale) and Palmer Felty. On May 18, 1935, as Helen Felty, she married Lester Sowers of Akron, IN. Helen was a beautician, bookkeeper, and an excellent seamstress. Helen was employed at Robertson's department store and the Francis Shop. She was a member of Zion United Church of Christ in South Bend. She and Lester moved to Largo, Florida, in August 1977. They both were active in their senior club and also their church in Largo.

After Lester died in 1992, Helen managed on her own in Florida. When she fell in 2007 and was unable to continue living alone, her dear friends and neighbors, Barbara and Garland Stidham, watched over her and helped her move into assisted living.

She passed from this life under the care of Hospice in the assisted living. Survivors include a niece, Beatrice Sowers Ansbaugh (Don) of Granger; and a niece, Charlotte Kronewetter Wotz (Sigmond) of South Bend. Also surviving are a half sister, Wilma of South Carolina, and many other nieces and nephews. A grandson, Christopher Sowers, and granddaughter, Stephanie (Dan) Murphy, also survive along with four great- grandchildren of Omaha, Nebraska.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, Lester, and son, Herbert Wayne Sowers, and his wife, Gale. Also preceding her in death were four brothers and two sisters, one half brother and three half sisters.

Burial has taken place in Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park in Clearwater, Florida.
