SOUTH BEND - Joey J. Gardini, 50, of South Bend, passed away in the Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, South Bend, on March 14, 2007, at 4:45 a.m. Joey was born on January 13, 1957, to Mary (Medich) Gardini and Fred Armondo Gardini.

Survivors include his mother, Mary (Medich) Gardini; a sister, Lana (Jim) Jaroszewski; and four brothers, Fred, Silvio, Reg and Dino, all of South Bend. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

After graduating Riley High School in 1975, he joined the Marine Corps and was honorably discharged in 1979. He then attended IUSB.

He was an avid sports fan, notably the Chicago Cubs and Bears, and the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame. He loved music, loved to dance and to play his harmonica. He enjoyed playing softball, baseball, basketball and some golf.

Visitation was held from 2 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 15, in the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held today, Friday, March 16, at 10:00 a.m. in St. Matthew's Cathedral, South Bend, with Rev. Michael Heintz officiating.
