Dr. Gerald K. Glass, DDS

August 16, 1930 - March 7, 2018
SOUTH BEND - Dr. Gerald Kiley Glass, DDS, 87, passed away on Wednesday, March 7, at Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

Jerry was born August 16, 1930 in Indianapolis, IN to George E. Glass and Kathleen (Kiley) Glass. He is survived by his loving wife, Anne Glass and their two sons, Dr. Paul B. (Lynne) Glass, DDS and Gerald G. (Stephanie) Glass and grandson, Aiden Glass all of South Bend. He was preceded in death by his parents and his twin sister, Geraldine Glass.

Jerry attended Studebaker School, Riley High School, Indiana University, Bloomington and Indiana University School of Dentistry in Indianapolis. He was in the top 6 scholastically of his dental school class in 1956. He was a member of O.K.U. Scholastic Fraternal and Psi Omega Social Fraternity. Jerry loved the beauty of Indiana University campus. He was a member of the Indiana Dental Association, North Central Dental Society, Chicago Dental Society, and maintained his license throughout his life.

He married the love of his life, Anne Ackerman on June 28, 1969 at Saints Peter and Paul Cathedral in Indianapolis. They were happily married for 48 years.

Jerry was a dentist for over 45 years and enjoyed every second. He loved his patients and his work, although he actually never called it work. He had a great ability to interact with patients in and out of the office. He loved to listen, but he also loved to talk and was known to hum to his patients during dental procedures. Jerry was great at recalling many personal histories and almost never needed a chart to remember the procedures he had done. Upon his retirement, his son Paul took over his practice.

He volunteered 14 years at Pathways Behavioral Health. He enjoyed traveling with his family throughout the years and was always up for an adventure. They took several trips to Europe and the Bahamas, but he always loved his return trips to Northwest Ontario, an area he called “Paradise”. Jerry loved golf but was better at fishing. He also enjoyed cooking, oil painting, and planting his flowers each spring.

In lieu of flowers the family request all memorials be given to: The Center for Hospice, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN 46545.

Visitation will take place on Friday, March 16, from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Hanley and Sons Funeral Home “Southwest Chapel” located at State Road 23/W. Ireland Road, South Bend.
