Allen Eugene, “High,” “Pop,” Lilves, 90, passed away at his North Liberty, IN home on Saturday, Feb. 26, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. Allen was born on July 05, 1931 in Wabash IN to Charles and Dorothy (Ball) Lilves.

On Feb. 9, 1949, in Fort Wayne IN, Allen married the love of his life, Joyce Anne Landgraf, who preceded him death in 2014. Allen is survived by his three daughters, Katherine S. (Ron) O’Dell of North Liberty, IN, Cinda A. Kondan, of South Bend, IN, Debra L. (Randy) Johnson of Plymouth, IN and a son, Gregory A. (Brenda) Lilves of North Liberty, IN; seven grandchildren, Lisa Pace, Shawn (Marylynn) Christy, Shannon (James) Caldwell, Kelly Hostetler, Bradley East, Kyle (Nancy) Lilves and Jennifer O’Dell; twenty two great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Allen was preceded in death by both parents and by his two sisters, Carole Walters and Mryna Foster.

Allen was a meat cutter, beginning his career working with his father at “The Country Store” in Mishawaka IN. Allen worked for a chain of meat markets called Justa Meat Market and became owner of the last remaining store in South Bend. After many years of serving the Miami Street neighborhood, he closed Justa Meat Markert and went to work for Haberle Machine in South Bend.  Allen joined the family business, Top Shot Armory LLC as Vice President in 2010 and served in that capacity until his death.

Allen was a life-long outdoorsman. Fishing and hunting were among the great passions of his life. He was considered a “master” at catching and consuming fish, especially his favorite, Blue Gill.  In his younger days, Allen was a member of many bowling teams in South Bend, winning several league championships. Two of his proudest accomplishments were when he won the Amateur Trapshooting Association 1998 Grand American Clay Target World Championship in the Veteran’s Division and when he won the 1998 Indiana State Trapshooting Champion in the Veteran’s Division. Allen also served as Vice-President and President of the Indiana State Trapshooters Association. Allen was a member of several organizations in the South Bend community as well. He served as a Volunteer Fireman with the Center Township Fire Department, and a Co-Manager of the Chain-O-Lakes Gun Club.

There will be a remembrance service held at a future date. Contributions in memory of Allen may be offered to Center for Hospice Care.
