Robert D. Scott Mar. 16, 1931 - Sept. 5, 2015 SOUTH BEND - Robert D. "Bob" Scott of South Bend passed away at Hospice House in South Bend following a short illness. Bob was born on March 16, 1931 in South Bend to the late Frank and Frieda Scott. Bob was a 1949 graduate of Riley High School of South Bend. Following his graduation he served in the United States Navy as a dental technician.
He attended and graduated from the Elkhart General Hospital School of Radiological Technology and received his Associates degree in Allied Health Science from Indiana University of South Bend. Bob worked at South Bend Memorial Hospital until his retirement in 1997. While working in the Radiology Department Bob was Director of the Memorial Hospital School of Radiology Technology. At the time of his retirement he was Assistant Director of Radiology Services at Memorial Hospital.
Bob made a friend of everyone he met. He was a member of the Indiana Society of Radiologic Technologists and the American Society of Radiologic Technologists. In 1995 he received the Technologist of the year award from the Indiana Society of Radiologic Technologists.
He was a lifetime member of St. Peter United Church of Christ. In his leisure time he enjoyed reading, Notre Dame Football and Basketball, the Chicago Cubs, the Chicago Bears and most of all spending time with his family and his beloved Dachshunds.
Bob is survived by his wife of 53 years, June (Schubert) Scott, a daughter, Jacqueline (Dr. Frederick D.) Scheel, two grandchildren, Andrew Scheel and Danielle Scheel, a sister, Betty Sandstrom, sister-in-law, Roma Scott, nieces and nephews, Randall Scott, Susan Klota and Mary Pontius, several great-nieces and nephews and an honorary grandson, Vincent Belkiewitz.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, September 10, 2015 at St. Peters United Church of Christ, 915 North Ironwood Drive, South Bend, IN 46615, where Rev. Scott Bowie will officiate. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Osceola, IN. Friends may visit with family from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Wednesday at Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend, IN. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Bob to St. Peters United Church of Christ, 915 North Ironwood Drive, South Bend, IN or The Center for Hospice Care, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN 46545.
