Muriel J. (Battenberg) Evans

SOUTH BEND - Muriel J. Evans passed away Sunday afternoon, June 17, at 93 years of age. Muriel was born April 13, 1914, to Charles and Hazel Battenberg in Milwaukee, WI. The family moved to South Bend in the early 1920s and she graduated from Riley High School in 1932.

Muriel married Edward Evans and had three sons, Charles E. (Trudy), David W. (Janice) and Greg A. She is survived by two sons, David and Greg of South Bend; five grandchildren, Jon of London, England, Christopher (Christine) of Zurich, Switzerland, Darin of Boston, MA, Anita and Nathan (Katie) of South Bend; and two great-grandchildren, Jennifer and Daniel.

Muriel was a lover of gardening, music and dance. She was often found in her youth at the Palais Royale. It was not unusual to find her sitting at the piano composing a song with her unique blend of humor to get God's love across. She was a strong supporter of the Gospel in the region and a faithful member of the Bible Study Fellowship. Muriel helped many people who needed a room for a short time, picking up people for church, groceries, doctor visits or whatever the need. She fellowshipped at many churches in the area and most recently attended Ambassadors of Love in South Bend. Muriel was a lover of the Bible and hosted and taught many Bible studies. She was a wonderful mother and mentor of many.

A funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 21, in Cobb Funeral Home, 3525 S. Michigan St., where Pastor John Retzloff of Ambassadors of Love Ministries will be presiding. Friends will be received from 5 p.m. until service time in the funeral home.
