SOUTH BEND — Harold Max Hersch, 78, of Mexico City, formerly of South Bend, died of natural causes at 10 p.m. Wednesday in his home. Mr. Hersch retired as the owner of Melva, S.A., of Mexico City. He was born Dec. 9, 1917, in South Bend. He is survived by his wife, Marcella Martinez-Barranco of Mexico City; a daughter, Marcella B. Hersch of Cuernavaca, Mexico; four sons, Henry, Dr. Paul and Victor, all of Mexico City, and Maurice of Germany; 10 grandchildren; and two brothers, Ben of Anaheim, Calif., and William of Chesterton.

He was a graduate of Riley High School and Indiana University. He was an Army Air Forces veteran of World War H.

Services will be in Mexico City. Cremation will take place at Panteon Espanol Cremation Society. Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association.
