Josephine Jambrich (Pfeiffer)

Josephine E. (Jambrich/Jambrick) Peiffer

March 12, 1922 - Oct. 21, 2011
SOUTH BEND - Josephine E. Peiffer was born March 12, 1922, in South Bend, Indiana, to Andrew and Frances Jambrick. She passed away peacefully on October 21, 2011, surrounded by her loving family in the home of her son Mike in Colleyville, Texas, after a hard-fought, 8-year battle with cancer.

She was a graduate of Riley High School in South Bend.

On June 26, 1948, she married Richard D. Peiffer, who preceded her in death. She had two sisters, MaryAnn Miller of South Bend and Francis Aanstoos of Vienna, Virginia, now both deceased.

Jo is survived by her son, W. Michael Peiffer of Colleyville, Texas, his wife, Beth, and grandson, Austin, and by her daughter, Patricia J. Bowen and husband, John of Boulder, Colorado. Her youngest daughter, Pamela J. Poe, preceded her in death, but she is also survived by her son-in-law, Dan Poe, grandchildren, Erin Poe and Andy Poe, and great-grandson, Mavric Poe, as well as by many beloved nieces and nephews.

Jo worked for the Engineering Dept. at Notre Dame for 28 years and was a devoted fan of the Fighting Irish. She was a faithful member of St. Anthony's parish for over 50 years and volunteered at St. Joseph Hospital. She moved to a retirement center in Grapevine, Texas, in 2009. Jo was an avid bridge player and leaves behind many dear friends in South Bend and in Texas. Jo was a wonderful and devoted daughter, wife, mother and grandmother. She demonstrated her inner strength by meeting and accepting her many challenges with grace, a positive attitude, a sense of humor, and her endearing smile. She embraced change as "a new adventure," and loved meeting new people. She will be dearly missed by her family and her many friends.

Contributions may be made in her memory to The Angel of Hope Memorial Garden, 2043 South Bend Ave., #168, South Bend, IN 46637; or to any Hospice organization.

A funeral Mass and memorial service will be held in South Bend at St. Anthony's parish on Thursday, November 10th, at 10:30 a.m. The family will receive visitors from 9-10:30, prior to Mass in the church lobby, as well as in de Padua Hall in the school's gymnasium at 12:45 pm following Mass and interment. You may express condolences and memories of Jo online at The South Bend Tribune's Obituary guestbook.
