Gerald E. Kline, 49, of Springfield, Ohio, a former South Bend resident, died at 7:20 p.m. Monday of a heart attack in St. John's Hospital, Springfield, Ill., while traveling with the White Superior Co., for which he was a field service engineer. He was born on Aug. 19, 1922, in South Bend, and lived here until moving to Ohio in 1953. On Oct. 8, 1950, in South Bend, he married Mildred I. Pennell, who survives with his mother, Mrs. Mabel Kline of South Bend, and three daughters, Mrs. David Shock of South Bend, and Miss Karen and Miss Janet Kline, both at home. 

Friends may call after 2 p.m. today in the Welsheimer Funeral Home, where services will be 2 p.m. Thursday by Rev. Val Harris, pastor of the Stull Memorial United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. Mr. Kline was a member of South Bend 1.0.0.F., Moose. Reed City. Mich., V.F.W., Springfield, Ohio, and the International Assn. of Machinists, Spring-field, Ohio. Mr. Kline was a veteran of World War 11.
