SOUTH BEND - Beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister, Norma Jean Walker, 80, formerly of South Bend, died February 19, 2007, in San Diego, CA. She was born in South Bend on August 21, 1926, to John and Belle (Snyder) Steinhilber, who preceded her in death.

Norma Jean married Dwight E. Walker at Ridgedale Presbyterian Church in South Bend on July 2, 1950. They built their home in South Bend where they lived for 53 years. Before relocating to San Diego in April 2006, they lived at Southfield Village in South Bend for 11/2 years.

Her husband of 56 years survives along with two daughters, Elaine (Peter) Sitz of San Diego, CA, and Ellen (Phil) Miller of Minneapolis, MN; two grandchildren, Jason and Sydney Miller of Minneapolis; and a brother, Jack Steinhilber of Escondido, CA.

After graduating from Riley High School in 1944, she began her career in the trust department of the First Bank and Trust Company. Remaining at home during the early years of her children's lives, she returned to work with The Associates in the late 1960s. In later years she was employed at Pioneer Federal Savings and Loan (formerly People's First Federal, now Key Bank) until her retirement as assistant branch manager in 1988. She was an active participant of Albright United Methodist Church, serving as church treasurer, a member of the Mary Circle and the friendship class. She also belonged to the Second Wind Pulmonary Support Group. She enjoyed reading, traveling, and visiting her children and grandchildren.

Friends may visit with the family on Sunday, February 25th, in the Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 N. Main in Mishawaka, from 2 to 5 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the chapel at Southfield Village, 6450 Miami Circle, South Bend, IN 46614, at 10 a.m. Monday, February 26th, with Rev. Dennis Ingle officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Osceola. Memorial contributions may be made to the Albright United Methodist Church, Mishawaka, IN, or to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.
