SOUTH BEND - Arthur W. Dickey, 97, of South Bend, IN, passed away after a full life at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 14, 2012, at Southfield Village, South Bend, IN. He was born on August 23, 1914, in South Bend, IN, to Jesse and Carrie (Walters) Dickey. On June 15, 1935, in South Bend, IN, he married the former Virginia B. Moon, who preceded him in death in 1994.
Mr. Dickey is survived by his daughter, Sandra J. Cagle of Indianapolis, IN; six grandchildren, John Dreibelbis of South Bend, IN, Daniel Dreibelbis of Plymouth, IN, William Dreibelbis of Indianapolis, IN, Deborah Lieske of Palm Bay, FL, Jeffrey Hakes of Nappanee, IN, and Ryan Hakes of Indianapolis, IN; fourteen great-grandchildren; and a brother, Donald Dickey of South Bend, IN.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kay Dreibelbis.
Mr. Dickey was a lifelong resident. He was a graduate of Riley High School.
Mr. Dickey retired in 1974 from the South Bend Tribune after 25 years of service where he worked as a display advertiser. He was an avid golfer, played trombone and piano, playing in several bands in the local area. He loved the residents and staff at Southfield Village where he resided for the last five years. He was a former member of the Community Baptist Church and a former organist at First Church of the Brethren in South Bend.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 17, 2012, in the chapel at Southfield Village, 6450 Miami Road, South Bend. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the services. Burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend, IN. Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, is assisting the family with arrangements.
